The Concept Behind Weapon Prestige
In previous titles, prestige was often just a badge of honor. In Call of Duty Black Ops 7, it represents a tangible gameplay advantage. When you hit the max level with a specific gun, you gain access to a special tier of progression. This system rewards dedicated use of a single weapon family by unlocking a unique "Prestige Attachment" that isn't available through standard leveling.
Stat Bonuses vs Cosmetic Variants
These aren't just skins or visual changes. These attachments fundamentally alter how the gun behaves. For example, some modifications might eliminate horizontal recoil entirely or convert a weapon to semi-auto for higher damage. They offer stat bonuses that reshape the weapon's identity. While standard attachments balance pros and cons, prestige versions often provide significant improvements to recoil, range, or mobility that standard parts can't match.
How Prestige Progress Works and When You Unlock Attachments
The journey starts with the standard grind where you must take your chosen weapon from level 1 to its capped Max Level. This process unlocks the base attachments like optics, magazines, and standard barrels. You can't access the prestige menu for that specific gun until you fill the progress bar completely. It's a requirement to prove you've mastered the base version of the firearm before upgrading it further.
Once you hit the cap, you enter the weapon prestige menu. Activating this grants you a Permanent Unlock Token applicable to that weapon's attachments. You'll also unlock the Prestige 1 Camo, which is universal. This action signifies that you're ready to specialize. The system is designed to keep your favorite guns relevant throughout the game's lifecycle by offering these long-term rewards. The rewards roll out in specific stages:
- Weapon Prestige 1: You instantly unlock the unique Prestige Attachment. This is the most critical tier for gameplay performance.
- Weapon Prestige 2: Grants a Prestige Weapon Charm and another universal camo.
- Weapon Prestige Mastery: Reaching Account Levels 100 through 250 unlocks high-tier camos like the Master and Max variants.
